Thousands of Walsall children offered a place at one of their preferred primary schools

Today, Thursday 16 April 2026, is primary school offer day, and parents and carers across Walsall are finding out where their child will start Reception this September.

Walsall Council received a total of 3,368 on-time applications before the January deadline, and every child who applied on time has been offered a school place for September 2026.

Of these applicants, 3,311 children (98.3%) have been offered one of their top three preferences, including:

  • 3,162 children (93.9%) offered their first preference
  • 131 children (3.9%) offered their second preference
  • 18 children (0.5%) offered their third preference

“ This is a big day for families across Walsall, and we’re delighted that over 98% of children have received an offer at a school they chose. Encouraging parents and carers to apply on time and use all three preferences makes a real difference, and it’s been great to see families engaging with this.

We couldn’t do this without the continued support from our primary schools for their dedication, partnership and commitment to our youngest learners. And to every child starting Reception in September 2026, I wish you a very happy, confident and exciting start to your school journey.

Director for Lifelong Learning, Walsall Council

Of the 57 children who were not offered any of their preferred schools, 44 had listed only one preference. Walsall Council strongly encourages families to use all three preferences and to contact schools directly before applying.

Families can view their child’s school allocation by logging into the portal here: Citizen Portal – Sign in. Confirmation emails are also being sent to those who submitted on-time applications.

The school application process in Walsall is entirely online, meaning parents can view their results on school offer day by logging into Walsall Council’s School Admissions Portal.
