Keira’s a winner!

Young patients turned Picasso in Walsall Manor Hospital’s Paediatric Department after being asked to design a logo.

The department needed a logo to represent “harm free care” as part of the Care Excellence Programme work that is being done across Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

Paediatric staff asked the children on the ward to produce what they thought would be a suitable logo and were given pointers such as using heart symbols, nurses, cannulas and so on to represent how staff should give excellent care.

One patient who wowed staff with her artwork was 16-year-old Keira Farrelly who won the competition with her innovative design which included a thermometer and cannula to show care must be given at all times when looking after patients.

Interim Director of Nursing, Ann-Marie Riley, and Interim Deputy Director of Nursing Caroline Whyte judged the entries.

Caroline said:

“It’s really great to have the children involved in this.  It was a really difficult decision with all the amazing high quality entries; I wish we could have chosen them all! I want to thank all the children for the efforts they made.
